Let’s explore the world of Miniatures

Hello there, how about exploring the world of miniatures? Something new for you? Well then let’s go see what Deana whips up in her shop at:

Brief bio where you are from and how you started  – I’ve lived in NE Indiana for most of my life (with a short time in Wisconsin while my dad was stationed there.)  I’ve always been fascinated with small things and loved playing with my Mom’s tin dollhouse as a child. My husband bought me a small dollhouse kit when I was pregnant for our first child. I couldn’t afford to spend a lot of money to furnish and accessorize it so I started figuring out how to make things myself. My wonderful husband got a new kit for each of my other two pregnancies as well. Then I took a 10 year break from miniatures while my children were young.

How did your Studio get its name?
My Zibbet shop for miniatures is DeLightful Minis by MiniDe. My shop on another venue was called MiniDe’s and my blog is De-Lightful Minis. I combined the two when I moved to Zibbet so previous customers could find me as well as blog followers.
What material do you work with? The best part about the dollhouse and miniature hobby is its versatility. Just as in a real home, furnishings and accessories are made of all types of materials. I make wood and upholstered furniture, food (usually from polymer clay), leather suitcases and the one inch scale people needed to live in a dollhouse. They are sculpted from polymer clay and once assembled are wigged and dressed. I also use a lot of recycled/upcycled materials. One of my favorite things to do is figure out how to make a realistic miniature from items most people consider trash.

When did you discover your creative side? My mother has always been very creative and I learned many skills from her – sewing, crochet, various crafts, etc. As long as I can remember I’ve been making things. I sewed and crocheted beautiful designer clothes for my Barbie dolls and that was probably the real start of my miniature bug.
What inspires you and what get’s you motivated? The strangest things can inspire an idea. I built and filled an entire castle for my collection after seeing a brass unicorn in perfect one inch scale. I painted him and then needed a princess to ride him…and the rest is history. Other times I see something in a catalog that I really like but don’t want to spend that much money on. I usually figure out how to make a reasonable substitute from scratch.

Describe yourself with 5 words? Loving, creative, nurturing, strong, faithful

  1. Love miniatures and have collected for many years but kind of stopped. I think my newest might be considered vintage! Great to meet you!
