Spotlight Friday: Flash attack

This weeks Spotlight does not have a theme.

I wanted to say thank you to all the relentless posters from the Zibbet Flash Attack team. http://community.zibbet.com/forum/topics/new-flash-attack

And this is what it’s all about:

This particular thread is to encourage a lot of us to promote one shop heavily all at the same time in order to increase their exposure and create some real external traffic. We are having good results! We all have our own ways of promoting; Facebook, blogs, Pinterest, whatever. This is just a way to promote those who encourage us and really bring some hope and life into these shops! If you want to join us, we will add your shop name to the list in the next week.

A little clarity:  This promo IS NOT about selecting unsuspecting shops.  I know alot of us promote new and unknown shops all the time without ever telling them, and I hope that continues! But this is different, This promo is about helping the shops that we know are always helping us. We are getting much deserved exposure for Zibbeters who enjoy promoting each other. Shops are selected from the list of those who choose to join us.  You might be suprised when you get chosen but we all know we stand a chance of being selected. If anyone wants their shop taken off the list, no problem, just let me know. No strings. Just fun and positive things here.

It’s very easy: Small shops (50 items or less,) will get 2 to 4 days of promoting ; larger shops (more than 50 items,) will get a full week. Promote off site as much as you can and everywhere you can. Do it like it was your shop! Let us know that you are promoting and where. If you are the shop being promoted, let us know how it’s working for you! The target shop also gets to select who will be our next target from the list of promoters.

At the moment it was 19 shops -minus mine, so that means I will do 2 Spotlights in one sitting today. Here we go!

Spotlight Friday: Chocolate

After the last few days, I needed some Chocolate. So what did I do? I walked to my fridge to dig out the hidden Chocolate. I have to hide it otherwise I will never get a piece. Somehow it always disappears.

I was searching for a “safer” option to enjoy some Chocolate. So what better place to look then on www.zibbet.com

What about you?

What would you do with strings?

I think Christina from CSLdesigns  could tell you. It is amazing what she does with “just” strings.

Where is your center of craft life? Where is your business?

The centre of my craft life and my business is at home since I work from home. I have all my stash stored and organised in my home, which means I always have easy access to all my things and it really helps keep the business costs down as well.

What kind of material do you work with and why?

Give me any form of string, thread or cord and I’m happy, because my main passion is macrame and micro macrame. I think it is because I am just so fascinated with what can be made with something as simple as thread. I have more recently started working with wire as well, which I really love doing as well, and I especially love mixing the two mediums for something new and different.

Why do you craft? How did you learn?

I craft because it is a part of me. I couldn’t not be creative and do something crafty with my life. I grew up with being crafty pretty much since birth as it was and still is something my mum and I share. When I started university, some years ago now, I went through a few years of not really being creative and it was the most miserable years in my life, and then thankfully I rediscovered it and I have become much happier again. It really is almost like a form of therapy as it has helped me get through and cope with so many things.

What was the inspiration for your shops name?

The inspiration for my shop/business name is really quite simple. I wanted to make sure that it was something that was easy for people to remember, recognise and spell, but at the same time something personal to me. And therefore I came up with CSLdesigns, where CSL are my initials.

What are your can’t-live-without craft-room essentials?

My can’t-live-without craft-room essentials is a tough one, but for my materials it would have to be my cord/thread and wire and for tools a scissor and my basic wire tools.

How would you describe your style?

I think my style is a mix of many things, but one thing I love is colour and trying to look at colours and colour combinations in a different way, and I think it is modern, unusual but still wearable.

Are there any crafters/artists/designers that you particularly look up to?

There are a few people that I admire for their skill and creativity and then probably most importantly, the quality of their work and how they finish it off down to the last detail. And within jewellery making, which is my main area that would be people like Rachel Norris and Nicola Beer, who are both wireworkers, and they always bring a quality to what they do. And that is something that is really important to me, to always try and bring the quality and finishing into whatever I make

What do you do to make your work space an enriching and inspiring place to be?

I am unfortunately quite limited with my options at this moment in time as we live in a small place, but I do what I can to keep things tidy and organised as clutter and messiness gets to me. That is the best way for me to help myself stay motivated and inspired at the moment.

What sorts of things are inspiring you right now? Where do you look for inspiration?

I look for and get my inspiration from everywhere and it can jump into my head at any time. Sometimes I purposely work on a design, but other times something just pops into my head, so it is very different, but something that always inspires me without fail is nature.

When do you feel the most creative?

I feel the most creative all the time to be honest. I constantly have many things/ideas flying around in my head. The problem is that there isn’t enough hours in the day for everything.

What are your future plans?

My future plans are to continue to grow my business and just be able to do what I love doing and also aspire to help others do the same to the best of my abilities, as there is no better feeling and nothing would make me happier.

Spotlight Friday: purrrrrrr…….

Who can resist a  purring fur ball right next to you? Well I know I can’t I just have to pet that fuzzy warm hair.  And then to get the look of ” why are you stopping now, you didn’t hit the right spot yet”

IMG_1977

I don’t know how this is comfortable to sleep like that, but Tygra obviously thinks it is.  I love it when he lays on his back with all his paws in the air. You just want to dive into that fuzzy soft belly hair. Sometimes he let’s you stroke it, but not very often. It is his ticklish spot and he will try to nip you when he is not in the mood.

So for my today’s Spotlight, can you guess what I was looking for?

yes,  cats!

Spotlight Friday: weather

The weather is pretty grey in grey here the last few days. It is very hot and sticky. My daughters field trip got canceled on Wednesday do to the Storm front that was rolling over the southern states the last few days, the School decided to postpone. They didn’t want the bus on the road with looming Tornado threats.

It is funny how we as people are. When it is hot and sticky we long for some cooler days. If it is cold and freezing outside we want the sun to come around quickly. Weather is fascinating and powerful, sometimes really scary.

When those thunderstorms roll through here I usually feel  very small and a little frightened. I know I might be a little weird, but I unplug everything when a Thunderstorm rolls in, stay away from the windows. I have a lot of respect when this kind of weather is here.  My neighbors just smiled at me when I told them what I do.

While living in Germany I once had a lightning hit the house and the electricity came out of one socket went through my living room into another socket. That was loud and scary and for a second I just stood there dumb struck. Then thinking, ” wow, I am glad I was not standing there”.

I am happy that it is going to rain, like that I don’t have to water my garden and my rain barrels will fill up again. My plants will be a little bit taller after the good drink and hopefully my seeds that I had put out a little while ago will start to grow.

I love the smell in the air after a good drench and I am always on the look out for a rainbow, for me they are like  miracles.

I remember when living in Papua New Guinea, in the rainy season we loved going outside and dance in the rain and go play in the drenches that filled up in seconds. Or what we loved doing most was belly slide down the hill. Boy where we dirty after that, but it was just too much fun.

So let me go over to www.zibbet.com and see what I can find that is tagged with “weather”
