Spotlight Friday: warm feet

I am sure you are all fed up with all the cold and snow that has been around for the last few weeks. I know I am. We live in the South and usually don’t have cold spills very long. Well we started out with snow on November 1st 2014, it got warmer over Christmas time but since January 2015 we are bundling up. Wearing many layers, adding gloves, scarfs and hats. I ended up making myself some more knitted socks, the commercial ones just didn’t keep me warm the last few weeks. My kids asked for extra gloves.                  DownloadsSpecial my older one, she always has icy fingers. Her finger joints swell and get red (Docs don’t know why, but I suspect the cold and maybe some food) but are not hot, but really cold. So I made her a pair to keep on during class.

I am so happy my Mom has taught me how to knit socks. I use 5 DPN needles and the old fashion way to make the heel. Usually I like knitting the socks with self striping sock yarn. And if it is just a simple pattern it usually takes me around 16 hours to finish one sock for my size 10. A little longer for bigger feet or a more intense pattern.  There are a lot of sock yarns out there that I would love to try. I like using Merino wool, it feels soft ( I can’t handle sheep wool on my skin. I know sensitive me 😉 ) and most of the time washable in the machine. My friend from Germany sends me a ball of Sock yarn once or twice a year. I love those surprises and usually try to make a pair for either her or me. I have been supplying my family and close friends with socks for a long time. Love it.

I decided a few weeks ago to reopen my shop in Etsy again, it never hurts to have your eggs in more than one basket right? So I decided to share my space here to share Spotlight for both places.

Let’s start with the warm feet I found on Zibbet:

Do you have a pair of favorite Socks?

I do and they are in my sock pile for quite some time now. I do have to add a few additions I fear, this weather we are having lately is just not for my feet. Once I get cold feet it’s over and I get cranky. I am so ready for flip flop weather again.

Enjoy your day, where ever you may be.

Spotlight Friday: the color Purple for your Saturday

I hope everyone is warm. In the morning my car said -9 C/  15.8F when I dropped the kids off at School. Brrrr….. that’s cold for South Carolina. That meant a lot of layers and some gloves, hats and scarfs.

I finished a pair of socks for myself yesterday. I didn’t have any warm socks left, two knitted ones in the wash and the commercial ones are either to thin for this weather or had “ventilation” holes.  So today I will have toasty toes thanks to this pair.

warm socks  They are a little darker purple then in the picture.

This brings me to the Colors of the day. The last color I didn’t cover yet is Purple, for your Saturday. For me it is Saturday everyday, because Purple is my favorite color. I think if there would of been a possibility to get my car in purple, I would of.

Purple combines the calm stability of blue and the fierce energy of red. The color purple is often associated with royalty, nobility, luxury, power, and ambition. Purple also represents meanings of wealth, extravagance, creativity, wisdom, dignity, grandeur, devotion, peace, pride, mystery, independence, and magic. (http://www.bourncreative.com/meaning-of-the-color-purple/)

Purple is a rare color in Nature, there are only a few plants that have purple flowers. Can you guess what grows around my house? Yes ,a lot of Lavender. I love the smell and the color. Not so much my kids, when the bees come out. But when the hummingbirds and butterflies are all over the bushes the kids will sit and watch.

Purple or violet gemstones are believed to increase your imagination, remove perceived spiritual obstacles, calm confrontations, and re-energize the learning of new things.

  • Having either purple or violet as your favorite color means you are sensitive and compassionate, understanding and supportive, thinking of others before yourself – you are the person others come to for help – being needed motivates you but sometimes people take advantage of you.

So let me go hunt for some Purple:

Spotlight Friday: The color for your Friday is light Blue

When I hear light blue, I think of the Mediterranean Sea or a cloudless sky on a Spring day.

Light blue is associated with health, healing, tranquility, understanding, and softness, peace, serenity, ethereal, spiritual, infinity.

It reduces stress, creating a sense of calmness, relaxation and order – we certainly feel a sense of calm if we lie on our backs and look into a bright blue cloudless sky. It slows the metabolism. The paler the blue the more freedom we feel. (http://www.empower-yourself-with-color-psychology.com/color-blue.html)

I love doing that, looking into the sky and watch the clouds pass by and sometimes find a shape in them. It is so much fun with the kids, because they see different things than I do.

Variations of the Color Blue

Pale Blue: Pale blue inspires creativity and the freedom to break free.

Sky Blue: One of the calmest colors, sky blue inspires selfless love and fidelity. It is non-threatening and promotes a helpful nature that can overcome all obstacles. It is the universal healer.

Azure Blue:A color of true contentment, azure inspires determination and ambition to achieve great things, a sense of purpose in striving for goals.

Dark Blue: Dark blue is the color of conservatism and responsibility. Although it appears to be cool, calm and collected, it is the color of the non-emotional worrier with repressed feelings, the pessimist and the hypocrite. Dark blue can be compassionate but has trouble showing it as its emotions run deep. Dark blue is a serious masculine color representing knowledge, power, and integrity, and is used quite often in the corporate world. Spotligh Friday: The color for your Thursday

I can’t believe that we are already in  February. It seems that the time is going faster and faster the bigger the kids get, or is it just me getting older?

Didn’t we just wish each other a Happy New Year? It feels like it was yesterday. We have been very busy the last few weeks though. On top of all that we decided to make a major shift in our diet. We where eating pretty healthy already, but obviously there was still something not right. I didn’t recover from my Gallbladder surgery too well and ended up with constant heartburn again. I did get a Gastroscopy (camera down into your stomach) to find out if there would be anything wrong. There wasn’t, phew.  The Doc said, well you will be on Nexium for the rest of your life. And I thought “oh NO I WILL NOT” not with all those dangerous side effects this medication has. So I started searching the internet, what the causes of heartburn usually are.

I found it out and that meant major change in our diets. It all made sense. I still have to learn how to manage my stress better and learn how to worry less. If anyone has any good tips, I would love to hear them. I made a few decisions for myself and my crafting business, meaning that I will not let myself be pulled into something that is not healthy for me. It is a hard lesson to learn, sometimes it is better to walk away.

What does all this have to do with the color orange?

Orange Color  Orange

Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.

To the human eye, orange is a very hot color, so it gives the sensation of heat. Nevertheless, orange is not as aggressive as red. Orange increases oxygen supply to the brain, produces an invigorating effect, and stimulates mental activity. It is highly accepted among young people. As a citrus color, orange is associated with healthy food and stimulates appetite. Orange is the color of fall and harvest. In heraldry, orange is symbolic of strength and endurance.

Orange has very high visibility, so you can use it to catch attention and highlight the most important elements of your design. Orange is very effective for promoting food products and toys.

Dark orange can mean deceit and distrust.
Red-orange corresponds to desire, sexual passion, pleasure, domination, aggression, and thirst for action.
Gold evokes the feeling of prestige. The meaning of gold is illumination, wisdom, and wealth. Gold often symbolizes high quality. (http://www.color-wheel-pro.com/color-meaning.html)

I am determent to make a few changes, big and small. I already feel so much better after changing our diet to Paleo. I dropped nearly 10 lbs and have not had a bad heartburn since beginning of January, so I am very happy about this.

The color psychology of orange is optimistic and uplifting, rejuvenating our spirit. In fact orange is so optimistic and uplifting that we should all find ways to use it in our everyday life, even if it is just an orange colored pen that we use.

Orange brings spontaneity and a positive outlook on life and is a great color to use during tough economic times, keeping us motivated and helping us to look on the bright side of life.

With its enthusiasm for life, the color orange relates to adventure and risk-taking, inspiring physical confidence, competition and independence. Those inspired by orange are always on the go! (http://www.empower-yourself-with-color-psychology.com/color-orange.html)
