it would help to know my Physics….

So the last thing you saw was this

ham4

I think by now it’s safe to say that this will be a wreath with two trees, some sky and grass.

I then made a hammock, that I attached to the tree trunks. And went on to making the mouse and the accessories. I had to wait for the feedback from my kiddo on the teachers eyes. I like making my mice personal.

ham7

The hammock looked pretty comfy to me. I am one to spend a lot of time in my own hammock, enjoying the sounds of nature, soaking up the sun or reading a good book. Or sometimes just taking a nap.

What I didn’t take in account that the mouse would not have the same weight distribution as I did.

After I had finished up the mouse I sewed it to the hammock and picked the wreath up on it’s hanger.

Guess what???

Yes, the mouse did a flip and was hanging belly down!!! Sorry, I have no picture of that. I was just too frustrated with myself. Why didn’t it dawn on me, that the lightweight hammock would not hold the “heavy” mouse.

I had to ponder on that for a little and tried a few options.

I finally managed to find one that wouldn’t look too funny and awkward.

This morning I printed out some book covers and cut out little book pages and sewed the books together. I then glued them to the wreath.Hammock5

Attached my little tag and wrapped it up. Sat the kiddo down to write a little note for the teacher as soon we got back from School.

I hope the teacher gets to enjoy her Summer Break with some good books in a hammock.

lots of green

remember this? ham

Over the last few days I worked with a lot of browns and greens, to add more definition to this wreath.

This is how it looks like, at the moment. ham4

I am not quite sure if I want to fill in some more leaves and leave the roots as they are.

In the meantime I will start on my mouse and on something else that will be added to this wreath. As well as some accessories that I still have to get started on. The good thing is, that it doesn’t have to be ready until the last day of School, so I have a little time to experiment and see how it is coming together and what I like best.

At the same time my yard is calling me, we need to get things planted, some bushes and grasses so our sand / yard doesn’t get washed away. But I am waiting on the people from 811 to spray their orange color so I know where the lines are, they are taking their sweet time though.

and then there was this…..what will this be?

while I was at it……  I mean, while I had my mouse supply out I figured it wouldn’t hurt to start on my youngest teacher gift, for the end of the year. Just finished the music teachers gift yesterday.

These are the wreaths I made last year for the teachers.

After my kiddo has the same teacher she had last year, I have to come up with something different.

She did love her wreath though and had it out in the hall as deco for a while.

So I found this ham2

and then I added a little bit of this

ham1

The end product for today is this

ham

I still have to figure out how to add a few distinctive things, to make it more 3 dimensional, but that will happen the next few days.

At the same time I have to start on a mouse that will go on this wreath.

What do you think this will be?

Spotlight Friday: life on a swing

As a kid I loved swinging. Actually I still love it. I always tried to swing as high as possible to see if my toes could touch the sky. Then how my belly tickled when I came back down.  I used to sit on a swing for hours.

Now my grown up behind does not fit on any playground swings anymore (not that grown ups are allowed to swing there anyway)so I will swing on either tire swings or a glider chair will do as well. I love sitting in a swing chair while enjoying a good book too. Oh and I love me a good hammock. Laying, swinging and watching the clouds go by.  Have to put that on my shopping list. Ours broke a couple of years back and I miss it ever since.

I enjoy the back and forth movement, it is so soothing.

Why is it that this gives me such a pleasant feeling?  I believe swinging relaxes the mind, calms you. The back on forth movement just has something soothing.

I think I need a swing back in my live, to wind down those hectic days.

This is my brother and I , around 1975/76

All those memories inspired me to work on a Mouse wreath. I wanted Spring, I wanted flowers, I wanted fun and I wanted it to move. And I think I accomplished it. duo

The only problem I have now is, do I put it in my shop so somebody can have it in their house or do i keep it?  Or do I just make another one?

Then I went to Zibbet to see what kind of swings I could find there:

Are these cute or what. This just makes me want to go outside and get on a swing.

Swinging makes me feel free. Free from the hectic, the daily routine, my thoughts and so much more. Swinging is like therapy.

Spotlight Friday: Bavaria is where my ♥ is

Last night I had a good laugh with my oldest.  She just came home from her step class. Stepping or step-dancing is a form of percussive dance in which the participant’s entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken word, and hand claps. I didn’t find a video of her School Step team, but there are plenty of videos of step teams on youtube if you’d like to take a look.

She loves it and was showing me the newest steps she had learned. They where really fast and I said ” you know what this reminds me off?”

Then I showed her a video like this

“wow” she said “I guess they have a lot in common.”

Living in Bavaria you still see people wear the Lederhosen and Dirndl quite often. To the Oktoberfest of course every Bavarian wears it, but also on weddings it is quite traditional to wear this outfit.

Yesterday I had just finished a mouse, guess what he was wearing? Bayer bub

1. Gott mit dir, du Land der Bayern,
deutsche Erde, Vaterland!
Über deinen weiten Gauen
ruhe Seine Segenshand!
|: Er behüte deine Fluren,
schirme deiner Städte Bau
Und erhalte dir die Farben
Seines Himmels, weiß und blau! 😐

2. Gott mit dir, dem Bayernvolke,
dass wir, uns’rer Väter wert,
fest in Eintracht und in Frieden
bauen uns’res Glückes Herd!
|: Dass mit Deutschlands Bruderstämmen
einig uns ein jeder schau
und den alten Ruhm bewähre
unser Banner, weiß und blau!

Hymn of Bavaria

God be with you, ‘O land of the Bavarians,
German soil, homeland!1
His merciful hand
Rests upon your vast land! 2

He watches over your meadows,
Shields the homes of your cities, 3
And preserves for you the colors
Of his realm, white and blue! 4

God be with you, people of Bavaria,
That we, to our ancestors’ worth, 5
Sound in harmony and in peace,
Forge our own fortunes! 6

In the bonds of German fellowship7
That all may see us united
And to prove the glory of ages past
Our banner of white and blue!

The Bayernhymne (Hymn of Bavaria) is the official anthem of the Free State of Bavaria.

The melody of the song was written by Max Kunz in 1835. The text for the original first three stanzas was written by Michael Öchsner. Both men were members of the Bürger-Sänger-Zunft München (Citizen-Singers-Guild Munich), that first performed the song on December 15, 1860.

In 1946, the poet Joseph Maria Lutz wrote a new third stanza as a replacement for the Königsstrophe (King’s Stanza), since after theabdication of King Ludwig III in 1918, Bavaria has been without a king. He also replaced the Deutsche Erde (German soil) in the first stanza with Heimaterde (native soil).

In 1946, it was also officially recognised as the national anthem of Bavaria, and on July 29, 1966, the then prime minister of Bavaria,Alfons Goppel, chose the version written by Joseph Maria Lutz to be the official version.

In 1980, the Bavarian minister-president Franz Josef Strauß changed the official version to contain just the first two stanzas and switched Heimaterde back to Deutsche Erde, though the Heimaterde version is still widely used (for example, it was sung during the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to his native Bavaria in 2006, who also joined in singing this version[1]).

The song, like most national anthems, contains many symbolic representations, including repeated allusions to the colours white and blue, Bavaria’s national colours, especially describing Bavaria’s Himmel, which can refer to both sky and heaven. The march Bayerischer Defiliermarsch is often played along the hymn.  (wikipedia)

Spotlight Friday: the colors of the rainbow

I love watching rainbows appear in the sky. Sometimes you get lucky and see a double rainbow.

Growing up I often heard the Story about the Gold pot at the end of the rainbow.

leprechaun (Irishleipreachán) is a type of fairy in Irish folklore, usually taking the form of an old man, clad in a red or green coat, who enjoys partaking in mischief. Like other fairy creatures, leprechauns have been linked to the Tuatha Dé Danann of Irish mythology.[1] The Leprechauns spend all their time busily making shoes, and store away all their coins in a hidden pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. If ever captured by a human, the Leprechaun has the magical power to grant three wishes in exchange for their release. Popular depiction shows the Leprechaun as being no taller than a small child,[2] with a beard and hat, although they may originally have been perceived as the tallest of the mound-dwellers (the Tuatha Dé Danann).   (source Wikipedia)

What stories did you hear growing up?

Now let’s see what I could find on Zibbet when I typed “rainbow” in the search.

Spotlight Friday: Stars

This week I would like to look for some Stars on Zibbet. Just a few days ago you could see the rocket in the evening sky  that was sent up into the sky with all those satellites.

I love watching the night sky with all its miracles up there, the flickering and bright spots.

Some times in the Summer we would just lay in the grass at night and watch the night sky and start dreaming.

I am pretty sure you know this song

Cover version by Pequinito.
Words and music by Lee Pockriss / Paul Vance

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day
For love may come and tap you on the shoulder
Some starless night
Just in case you feel you wanna hold her
You’ll have a pocketful of starlight
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day
For love may come and tap you on the shoulder
Some starless night
And just in case you feel you wanna hold her
You’ll have a pocketful of starlight

[Pocketful of starlight…mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm]

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day [Save it for a rainy, rainy rainy day]
For when your troubles start multiplyin’
And they just might
It’s easy to forget them without tryin’
With just a pocketful of starlight

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day [Save it for a rainy day]
Save it for a rainy day.

so now let’s go find some Stars in www.zibbet.com
